Fearful Storm Burns Joeph Harker Barn and Farm Losses

A three o clock Saturday electrical storm struck Joseph Harker's east side barn, tearing through flames that spread to a nearby granary and Mrs. Atkins barn. Harker saved his horse only to watch it perish. roads hindered firefighting and insurance valued the barn at 100 dollars, the horse at 100, and the granary at 50.

Change of Position in Intercollegiate Oratorical Contest

Officials acknowledge an error in the final rankings from the Vermilion contest on May 17 1895 correcting the second and third place awards between E T Colton of South Dakota University Mitchell and N P Fawell of Baptist College Sioux Falls. Affected standings will await the next annual convention action. A separate item notes a lawn tennis match Hitchcock Scallin defeating Downey Windle 11-9 6-2 6-4 and outlines upcoming singles tournament and a campers outing to Greene's grove on the Jim river with listed participants.
