Murder Follows Bacon Dispute in Burke Livery Barn
In Bonesteel South Dakota on July 22 a farmer William Riley killed J S Ritts in a Burke livery barn over a bacon ownership dispute. Riley struck Ritts and kicked him in the head, causing a fatal brain injury. Coroner Fish State's Attorney Donohue and Sheriff McMullen led the inquest. The victim, about 42, left a wife and nine children destitute. Riley, a reputed troublemaker, is held for preliminary hearing before Judge Siggins.
