Death by burning at Mt Vernon Iowa

Mrs. Michael Dougherty was severely burned on Friday afternoon while burning gasoline for bed cleaning four miles northwest of Mt. Vernon Iowa. She died that night after lingering to 11 oclock. Funeral services were held at Holy Family church with G A R present.

Ed Wilber and W E Bundy visited South Dakota to evaluate land for purchase. Wilber reports an encouraging crop outlook despite rains delaying farm work. Corn in various stages, acreage above average, wheat yields from 25 to 80 bushels per acre, oats and other grains in good condition. dairy sector expanding with new creameries led by experienced operators.

Land prospects lure young men to South Dakota

Illinois and Iowa offer rolling rich soil with good rainfall and high fertility. Land sells from 15 to 20 dollars per acre, up to 30 with improvements, with hopes of doubling value in ten years. Mr. Wilber cites examples of men moving to farms of 160 acres or more, and notes South Dakota as a viable option for renters paying 3 dollars per acre in Iowa. Springville prefers residents stay, but South Dakota should be considered.

Fifteen Seek South Dakota Pharmacy Certification Examination

The State Board of Pharmacy held a quarterly session in Dix House Apartments with fifteen candidates for pharmacist registration. Board members James F. Lewis, E C Bent, I K Keith, and N J Bleser oversaw the exam, noting a 70 overall average across six branches and a minimum of 45 in any one area. The class marks the largest of the year, including four candidates with Ph D titles who must still pass the exam.

Banks Boast Rapid South Dakota Recovery In Two Years

National Bank Examiner Silsby cites South Dakota deposits rising from about four million to seven million dollars in two years. Storm damages barn as rural roofs blown down near Lisbon township

Wm Wilkinson from Lisbon township reports a fevers storm last week caused damage to his new barn and several outhouses as a hayrack broke apart and wood fragments embedded in the ground. Insurance will aid restoration. T A Potter of Western Electric says long distance line to Chamberlain nearly done with southward work starting soon.
