South Dakota BMC Merchants Enact Pure Food Law
The South Dakota Retail Merchants Association adjourned after a meeting and workers returned home. The new pure food law, passed by the legislature and signed by the governor, goes into effect with enforcement to the letter. it covers goods bought from home merchants but not catalogue houses based in other states. The association plans a 60 page quarterly magazine for retailers and consumers, first issue September 1. Officers elected include President H J Rice and Vice President A O Ringsrud with a slate of others on the executive committee.

National Holiday Celebrated Across Towns With Races Ball Game and Fireworks
Mitchell residents missed the national celebration at home, joining Alexandria and Forestburg events. Alexandria drew thousands for races, a chariot showdown, and a ball game where Mitchell won 13 to 7. W C T U picnic featured patriotic programs, speeches on temperance and patriotism, and a vigorous community turnout with music and recitations.
