Fire Extinguishing Grenade Demonstrated by Nutting Co

R W Gilchrest of the H S Nutting Fire Extinguishing Company of Minneapolis staged a fire suppression demonstration on Main and Second streets. He ignited oil soaked boards, then shattered a grenade at the base to suppress flame, followed by applying a standard extinguisher. The device is praised as ready to use and fabric friendly, urged for homes and businesses.

Dr Clark Family Leaves Huron For New Home

Dr. C B Clark and wife depart Huron after a reception for relatives and friends. The clark family heads to Deadwood where the doctor becomes pastor of the Methodist church while Mrs Clark and Charlie visit Mitchell briefly before joining him at their new home. The Huronite notes a large turnout and a pleasant farewell at the church last evening.

Acetylene Gas Experiment Lights Up Friday Evening

At Roth's plumbing shop on Friday evening L W Adams of Epworth Gas Light Co demonstrated an acetylene gas generator using coke lime and electricity to produce bright light. The setup ran inside a house with individuals owning their own gas plants and potential joint-use by neighbors. Adams plans to promote introduction of the new gas in the city.

Young Ladies Entertained At Mrs Smiths Home

Mrs Lou Ella Smith hosted ten young women at her Alexandria residence for an evening of games and social merriment. Guests answered thirteen questions on cards with prizes awarded for best responses, plus Salamagunodi refreshments. Also reported is the installation of Royal Arch Masons No 16 officers by Dr S J Moore with O T Huyck assisting.

Clara Hanmer Theatre Co Opens Week at Grand in The French Princess

The Clara Hanmer Theatre Co played at Mitchell's Grand opera house, drawing a large audience for The French Princess. Miss Hanmer's dual roles as Jean Ingleside and Marie Dubois drew praise, with notable performances by Clemens, Griffith, Williams, Lovell, and Clemens. The program included illustrated songs and several dances.

Poultry Show Backed By Davison County Partners

Davison County Poultry association prepares a city exhibition next Tuesday through Thursday with strong local support and incoming inquiries. Secretary Neilsen mailed catalogues to poultry enthusiasts statewide and space is reserved for outside exhibitors. The show will feature fine birds and a Mandolin club with Rathbun's orchestra performing on Wednesday and Thursday nights, with 10 cent admission.

Hiram Rodee Lectures on Physical Culture at Court House

About 125 people attended a Tuesday evening lecture at the courthouse by Hiram Rodee from the University on physical culture. The talk, under YMCA auspices, included elocution numbers, a demonstration by a University class, and plans to organize a formal instruction class.

Threats and arson scare Branson in Aurora County

A letter warned C. Branson to leave and threatened violence if found after the 10th. A hay stack west of his Thos. Kinsman place burned last Wednesday evening, traced to a horseman who rode away. The White Lake Wave notes community outrage and promises pursuit of justice.

City Must Pay Damages in Sherwood Suit

The supreme court affirmed the circuit court ruling awarding A. S. Sherwood two thousand five hundred dollars from the city of Sioux Falls for damages after a fall on the sidewalk along Dakota avenue between Thirteenth and Fourteenth streets. The April 1897 trial in Judge Jones's court led to the verdict for Sherwood.
