Yankton South Dakota January 21 Gerhard J Sanders Civil War veteran and pioneer burned to death in sleep at midnight in his home. The body lay visible on a heavy floor joist as the house burned destroying the residence. Sanders lived alone and had just received a pension leading to murder robbery theories though most believe a lamp or candle started the fire. He left three daughters one living in town and two believed in Sioux City and one son nearby.
