Dragged a Mile by Hair Injures Miss Etta Smith
An accident near Perry township left Miss Etta Smith with severe leg injuries after she stopped to fix a tug on the buggy. The horse started, her foot jammed between wheel spokes, breaking bones and tearing flesh as she was dragged along.

Plucky rescue ends in tragic amputation after buggy mishap
Miss Smith was dragged for a mile when her hair tangled on a buggy wheel. EF Cooper and WF Darmer halted the runaway horse and freed her by cutting the hair. She suffered severe bruising and was partly unconscious. Doctors then amputated her leg below the knee at her Perry township home.
