Pierre January 6 The governor message was read before the joint session after debate and is referred to committees. The legislature notes a deficit for the railroad commissioners two years totaling near $14,000 with unpaid claims for legal services. Wages and clerical costs are set for the next two years. Deposits rose from 85511.08 in 1897 to 111364.28 in 1898, signaling prosperity. Also note H H Garey of Mt. Vernon shipped a carload of yearlings from Sioux City for local farmers.
