Sioux City jury convicts George Trout of first degree murder and life imprisonment.
In 1886 Sparks canceled J F O Brien's homestead claim in Devils Lake land district and delays citing need for a special agent. Congressman Strait raised the issue. Sparks admits appeals will be treated with hearing standards and notes weak evidence and ex parte testimony.
At 1 o'clock this afternoon John Moore, owner of the Marshall boarding house on Simmons Street, attacked boarder M J Irving with a knife after a dispute over a board bill. Mrs Irving tried to intervene and Moore wounded her in the neck. Mrs Irving is in precarious condition. Moore is jailed to await Mrs Irvings fate. He has threatened the couple previously.

A cyclone roared by near OvilLa4 California last night, tearing down fences and cabins for six miles and carving a path about fifty feet wide. It is reported as the first cyclone west of the Rocky Mountains.
The February 23 mayoral election results in Philadelphia list Filler as Republican with 90,497 votes, Keim Democrat 62,204, Philips Labor 1,644, giving Filler a plurality of 28,293.
