Five O Clock Tea Highlights Social Week in Society Circles

Last Friday afternoon Jean Decker a former resident traveled the plains in early days while a government pension inspector paid an official visit to soldiers nearby. Mrs Emil Becker hosted a five o clock tea for her lady friends with a progress word puzzle contest awarding two prizes. Mrs J M Wood and Mrs S F Goodykoontz won the head and foot prizes. The rooms featured chrysanthemum and carnation decorations and refreshments followed a tempting menu. Gertrude Becker assisted by Julia Roger s Pearl Harker Blanche Rowley and Margie Becker helped greet guests. A Saturday evening card party hosted by Mr. and Mrs. Emil Becker featured seven tables of play and dainty refreshments after. Prizes went to Mrs. Geo E Foster and Thos Fullerton for most games, with consolation prizes to Dr J A Baker and several ladies. Guests included H R Kibbee, O L Branson, K Smith, Ed Leehan, W J Healey, Geo E Foster, Sid W Smith, J G McCartney and Geo E Logan.

H. G. Nichols Noted In Coursing Circles

In Sportsman Review a portrait and notice profile H G Nichols of Mitchell South Dakota. He is long time secretary of the American Coursing Club first elected at Huron in 1896 and re elected annually through 1899. Nichols runs about fifteen dogs including three imports Swansea Menominee and May Herschel and plans to send greyhounds to California for upcoming events next week.

New Rule for Canceling Revenue Stamps Reduces Fraud

The government issues a circular on canceling ten cent or larger documentary stamps. It requires the user to write their name and date and mutilate the stamp by three parallel cuts lengthwise, unless already cancelled by existing regulations.

Mrs C G Rathbun hosted another afternoon for several lady friends on Friday. Alice Jones greeted guests at the door while Mrs W H Conyes and Mrs S C Jones assisted. The Rathbun orchestra provided music during refreshments, drawing praise for her entertaining style.
