In Colorado City Colorado on August 22 the Tarsney outrage cases ended in a farce as District Attorney Cochran moved to dismiss after the grand jury failed to return true bills. Justice McCoach granted the motion amid public disgust with the proceedings.

A London dispatch reports Marylebone, St Pancras, Hampstead and other crowded districts hit by smallpox for about three weeks. Over fifteen thousand people infected, with 50 ambulances evacuating health crisis zones in a single night. Thames ships Atlas and Castalia host patients as public health authorities seek extra vessels. Scarlet fever adds pressure with 3,473 serious cases reported.
Indications point to a peak grain season in Duluth with the Imperial mill idle all week yet flour output around 69 000 barrels.
