Monmouth Mills Sold to Minnesota Buyers in Aug Transfer

Two men from Minnesota, M. Bailey and K. S. Christenson, completed the purchase of the Monmouth Mills from James H. Wood of Monmouth Illinois. They plan to take possession August 11 and move to Mitchell to oversee operations with slight property improvements. Jos. McCaslin has run the mill well and may be retained.

Mitchell school board selects Hathway as successor and adjusts staff

The Mitchell SD school board met to elect a successor to Miss Augusta Maguire. Miss Hathway won the position after several ballots, with Miss Rogers assigned to south side schools and Miss Coolley replacing Rogers. The board approved a $15,000 levy for the coming year, plus over $2,000 from the state school fund, and planned repairs including cement walks around the west side school building.

School property repairs and bids for interior work planned

During the June cloudburst two men were washed away while repairs at the street were underway. A cement walk will be laid at the south side school building and the lots graded to improve appearance. Interior kalsemining will be let by contract with bids received. Other repairs were left to the building committee.

Delightful Mitchell Reception Hosted by Local Ladies

A large number of Mitchell ladies attended a Friday afternoon reception hosted by Mrs. J. O. Walrath and Miss Craig with Mrs. W. J. Healey of Cincinnati visiting. Guests enjoyed refreshments, floral decorations, and informal conversation across parlor and dining spaces.

To Elect Town Officers in Ethan August 7

Town voters in Ethan will elect new officers on Thursday August 7 including three trustees a clerk treasurer an assessor a marshal and a justice of the peace Officials will hold their terms until the first Monday in May 1903 at the annual election following the incorporation vote already carried unanimously.

Special City Council Meets to Open Bids and Pass Ordinances

Davison County valued real and personal property at 3 055 409 with a general rise over the past year. The council met to open bids for library construction and laying water mains and sidewalks, consider ordinances to clean alleys and streets, and passed a sidewalk widening measure on Lawler street. Bids for north side water mains ranged 1750 to 2000, with talks of awarding to M EK Orrell or postponing to March 1903.

City mains bid rejected over cost and timing

Mr Hannett argued bids were too high since mains would arrive too late for use before next spring. The substitute motion passed with Hannett Curtis Koch for, Scriven Miller against. Bids were rejected and projects deferred till March, with plans to install mains on the north side. Contract for cement sidewalk awarded to Gottlieb Scheurenbrand. W B Miller was a higher bidder.

County Assessments Rise in Davison County Here

County Auditor Anderson reports total city and county assessment at 3 057 409 for 1902 up from 2 458 586 in 1901. Railroad and other utilities add 282 698 to the total. city property totals 1 092 332 with 216 833 acres of land valued at 1 541 408 and livestock up to 18 470 cattle valued at 184 331.
