Good Friday Service Unites Mitchell Clergy At Congregational

A small audience gathered at Mitchell's Congregational church for a Good Friday observance. Reverends Burleigh McConnell Stevens Durant and Presiding Elder Boggs led a union service with many younger clergy, highlighting Christian fellowship on the day the Christian world recalls the Son of Man's sacrifice.

Handsome Elk Trial and Escape Highlight Sioux Falls Trip

S. H. Wright visited Chamberlain then Sioux Falls to defend Handsome Elk in a United States court case. Elk was convicted and sentenced to one year in the penitentiary. He had previously evaded police by approaching a rifle and shooting two would-be captors after seizing a weapon from his son’s home.

Teachers Reading Circle selects texts for coming year in Mitchell

Executive Committee of the State Teachers Reading Circle met in Mitchell to pick textbooks. Attendees included Prof. W. H. Dempster, Prof. J. Jones, Frank Crane, Mrs. May Cowan, Prof. H. J. Whipple, H. L. Bras, R. S. Gleason, and E. W. Lewis. Gleason's American Book Co. won adoption. Bras reelected secretary. circle size 1688.

London Scenes Light Show Benefit at Congregational Church

An entertainment at the Congregational church Thursday evening, presented by Mr. G. W. Van, supported W C T U. The lime light show depicted London scenes with brilliant light and beautiful canvases. Miss Emma Harker described each image, and Miss Emma Colvin sang Rock of Ages with related visuals. If Mr. Van returns to Mitchell, the performance will likely be well patronized.
