Ranch sale and new settlers in Chamberlain area
A 700 acre ranch five miles east of Chamberlain in the American creek valley sold for 18000 cash to J S Woodard of Le Mars Iowa. The previous year the same ranch sold for 314000 with the buyer netting about 34009. T H Highama of Indianapolis arrives with prospects to sink an artesian well and develop a stock ranch. J Irish of Woodbury County Iowa also arrives to settle. Nearly every train brings land buyers and settlers to central Brule County South Dakota.

A Chamberlain stockman, after attending the Missouri River Stockman's association meeting at Fort Pierre, reports a committee will confer with the Milwaukee Road to link a range west to Pierre with dams west of Chamberlain. The goal is to make Chamberlain a competing stock shipping point, arguing Milwaukee grants more shipper privileges than the Northwestern. If denied, shippers will move to Milwaukee or another line. The Sioux reservation cattle west of Chamberlain are nearing market readiness, with Milwaukee prepared to handle them promptly.
