The Nelson Record notes the death of Roma Lee Elder, youngest son of Mr and Mrs J M Elder, on Friday May 17 after a year long struggle with tuberculosis. Born July 6 1899 at Gilliam he was 12. His father died recently of the same disease leaving a mother and siblings Robert and Mae in mourning.
Alexis L. Moffett died Saturday May 25 after a ten day illness at his South Odell home. He was 65, survived by his wife and one daughter Mrs Ryan. Born near Roanoke in Howard County September 20, 1846 his family moved to Saline then Longwood where he married in 1871 to his surviving wife formerly Mrs Nannie Lightfoot. A farmer before Marshall, he spent twelve years as a liveryman here. He was kind and well liked, leaving three sisters in law and several friends. Funeral services were held at home on Odell with Rev. B. T. W on officiating, and he was laid to rest beside his parents at Longwood cemetery.
James F Catron, brother of Merc James A Gordon and Mrs Mary Goodson, died at his Lexington home May 25 around 6 p m. He was 14. Survived by his wife and one daughter Misa Fitzabeth Catron.
Tasso Potter died Thursday May 1 around 10 a m after a period of illness. He was 75 and had lived in Saline county for fifty years near Blater and was born in Lebanon county near St Loud. He and his wife spent 1911 winter in Long Beach California and returned home. they boarded with W T Daggins in North Marshall. He lost a limb weeks ago and had been very low since. He married Susan Jane Hurt, daughter of the late Cearine Burt. Surviving are three children A and Mere A J Haines of the city and Henry Potter of Ken Mr. Potter was a good farmer and stock raiser.
Edna Armentrout died after a short illness of heart trouble at age 3 years 3 months and 7 days. Funeral services were held Wednesday at 3 p m at the home on East Arrow conducted by Rev Clarence Hodge. Interment followed at Ridge Park Cemetery. Survived by parents two sisters Mrs Ida Young and Mrs Ross Latimer of the city and brother William Armentrout of Salisbury. She was a churchgoer and attended Sunday School regularly. A host of friends mourn the loss of the young lady.
Joe Jackson died in Saline City on May 27 1912 after a long illness from stomach cancer and chronic nephritis the latter cause of death He was born March 15 1839 in Howard County and was 2 years 2 months 18 days old at death He left children a sister and many friends and was buried near Little Rock on Tuesday
Our high school commencement was held Thursday evening May 2. Superintendent Thompson, principal Meador, and the teachers earned praise for the program and the student achievement. Misa Doggins organized the good work and entertaining program. Thirty two graduates are listed including H. Howard Beasley Charles Serge Bramble Catherine Leigh Brown Anna May Evans Gilder Stansbury Horne Margarite Harte Irvine Catherine Marshall Nelle Montz Minnie Louise Smith Cecil Snyder Leon L. The first twelve graduates earned honors over four years. the class is among the strongest in the school and includes many promising young people.

High School principals and teachers listed include J B Needham, Mary Fisher, May Duggins, Mattie Yancey, Mary Davis, Edna Harrison, Harriet Laurie, Blanche Moore. Other schools name Emma Albertz as principal at Fastwood, Mayvd Harwood at Benton, Lilly Sparks at North, and J H Keg at Lincoln with several assistants and notes on recent postings.

The Commencement Concert was moved to Wednesday forenoon due to the storm, featuring the Indies' quartette and Vawter's orchestra. The 14th annual M. V. Co. concert at Stewart Chapel praised as unusually good. Commencement at Stewart Chapel honored Mayor Henry L. Jost who delivered the class oration and listed graduates. President Black announced new departments of art and domestic science with two extra instructors.
The M. V. Co academic exercises were held Tuesday evening in Sewartt Chapel before a good assemblage. A fine program was carried out with timely remarks by Dr W. H Black. One of the biggest commencement features at M V C was the comic opera Captain of Plymouth produced Wednesday evening at Stewart Chapel by the Sophomore class and Alumni Association. A large crowd attended and the program was thoroughly enjoyed, pronounced the best amateur performance ever given there.
The Missouri Ruralist plans a fat calf contest for boys under 18 with calves age 1 to 2 by next September. Prizes and glory await at the Sedalia state fair as boys feed and exhibit their calves. Each entrant joins the Capper Boys Baby Beef Club by immediate enrollment with secretary John T. Stinson.

Mr and Mrs James Bartleton welcomed a daughter at Weat Morgan on Wednesday May 22. Mr and Mrs V E Grimes near Slater joyfully announce a baby boy born May 21.
Rev T M Barbee will deliver the annual sermon at Pisgah church located at Elmwood. Services are set for the first and third Sundays each month at 3 p m at Mt Horeb church conducted by Rev Austin D Wolfe of Parkville.
Among the sick Mrs. Al Henton has been very ailing the past two weeks. Mrs. Ide Blaziey has been critically ill the past several weeks.
City council met in the evening with all members present. On motion city orders were approved for six Trident Water meters. Geo E. Rose awarded a 6312.60 contract to repair a culvert on Verby between Jefferson and Lafayette. Only other bid was from Chas Petry Jr who claimed discrimination for not awarding him the job. Petry said he offered reinforced concrete. Iron pipe on west side of Jefferson on East Wood referred to Street and Alley Committee. Billboard on McGinnie at West Arrow to be removed. Street Commissioner to oversee street oiling free of charge and to provide rebates for workers. J J Mitchell to be paid 10 per day to run engine and crew. Petition for Brunewick light filed.
At Gilliam Miss Josie Keyton hosted a Sunday noon dinner at her home, 1 12 miles west of Gilliam. Ice cream and cake were served while string music on violin guitar and mandolin entertained guests. Present were Temp Mayfield Joe Mayfield Will Mayfield Amos John Keyton and Misses Myrtle Theorpe Nellie Knowles Josie Keyton and J O Keyton wife and baby. They departed late, hoping for another visit.
Uncalled for mail remaining in the Marshall Missouri post office as of May 1912 will be sent to the dead letter office in Washington DC if not claimed within two weeks. Names listed include Roma Baldwin Homer Burgas John Quins Seymour Huret Dath Harp and others in the local area.
Saline County teachers examination for county certificates will be held at Odell Avenue High School building in Marshall Missouri on a date in March. Details include location and scope of the exam for county certification of teachers in the county system.

Last Thursday May 23, Mra C. J. Oquest of Mt. Leonard celebrated her birthday with children and grandchildren visiting. Her daughter Mra J. S. Howard of Marshall and Mrs. O. M. Spencer of Mt. Leonard, granddaughter Virginia, and La vina Irland of Marshall arrived, followed by her son Geo. of Slater, bringing gifts and shared joy with all who were away.
Vic McAllister and Miss Rutherford of Blue Lick were married by Squire Hiram Ferrill on Saturday afternoon. The report notes visitors, college commencement attendance, and local letters about the wet and dry issue with omissions due to space.

Miss Lee Hawkers stayed with Mr. and Mrs. T. J. Stivers. Amno Cott of Camp Creek passed through en route to Slater. Lalia Gilmer visited near Salt Branch. Claud Thomas of Camp Creek visited his brother Clarence. Clarence Hawkins works for Ol Daffine. Darrett Venable and Clarence Hawkins spent Sunday with the Mimes McCoy.
