Also Jesse Wheeler born 1839 near Rushville Illinois died in Sweet Springs area after teaching and hardware work. Elizabeth Welch born Callaway County Kentucky died March 7 1910 aged 66. Brief notes include infant Bernice Armstrong died March 13 and Marlow infant death near town. Funeral details and surviving relatives listed.
The notice reports the death of Roy Lester Dille son of Mr and Mrs William Dille at age one year seven days from pneumonia. Funeral services were held at Fish Creek Baptist church conducted by Rev Clark of Slater with burial in Fish Creek Cemetery. James Wingfield a prominent Saline County resident who moved to Seattle died March 16 at age 61. CHAS. PITTMAN, Saline leader, died of cardiac dropsy March 1 at his Malta Bend home aged 126. W. S. HOLLAND, long respected Saline citizen, died suddenly March 19 after a recent illness.
Mr. Holland born in Kentucky June 4, 1833, lived life as a Baptist and polishes a long Missouri life with nine children. He married Eliza beth Holloway 54 years ago and funeral rites were at Napton Baptist church conducted by Rev. D. C. Bolton. Mrs Zach Wood, about 59, died after a long cancer illness near Slater after a long life. survived by husband and several children. services at Orearville and interment in Durrett family cemetery.
Mrs Lutie Goode of Slater died Monday of consumption at about fifty five years. She is survived by her husband.
Orville Cable, a Blackburn youth slated for arson trial in Criminal court this week, died Saturday night after falling from a freight car near Blackburn while en route to Alma. The accident happened as the train curved west of town. Ross narrowly escaped with bruises and reached Blackburn. Cable’s body was recovered and men in an auto pursued the remains. his trial had been scheduled for Wednesday.
Frank Mitchell, the east side jeweler, filed a voluntary assignment last Saturday to benefit creditors. He valued his liabilities at about 4000 dollars, to be distributed among 18 of 20 creditors. Duggins & Duggins represent him and stated stock will be sold as soon as possible.
A railway meeting at the courthouse Friday night drew enthusiasm. The band offered free services. Company officers spoke followed by John G. Miller. Jas A. Walker presided. A subscription of 500 dollars by Mrs. D A Cooney and a later 2500 dollar gift by Thos Bagnell were noted as major contributions.
Committees canvassing for stock subscriptions to the electric railway report good success though no formal report yet. Encourages support for a solid proposition benefiting the city and asks locals not to discourage the volunteers.
Three miles southeast of town Chas. Leeper, a former M. Y. C. student, was kicked in the head while unhitching horses. The horse struck him on the forehead and he was knocked unconscious. Dr. G. T. Nuckles treated him. injuries are not serious.
A public sale by W B Lewis will include horses cattle farming tools and farming implements at his farm ten miles south of Marshall along the Sedalia road starting at 10 a m on Saturday March Mth.
Grand jurors report visiting the county farm and reviewing the sheriff, jail and court house. They commend the county’s appropriation and upkeep, note repairs needed, and report few law violations due to diligent officers. Verdicts include Wm Brady eight months? and Dave Piper serving prison time. Journi Burns fined 800. other arrests noted.
Will Be Goon Hereafter W R Pixley of Mobery and J E Mobery of Marshall, both deaf mutes, claimed ignorance of the train drinking law. On Mug Saturday they drank aboard and were arrested by Conductor Diffenbacker. Pleaded guilty before Juanes Davis. fines and costs $15 each. They signed a note promising not to repeat. They were found with coted woods.
A serious accident at the C and A depot Saturday night left Tom Lacy, age one, with his right arm crushed after a ride attempt near a plug and freight train. Doctors Har din and Harris amputated below the elbow, and the child is bearing up bravely.
The Golden Rule Store will move to Nevada Missouri next week and continue business under the present management. The proprietors, proven able and pleasant business men, regret leaving. A removal sale is advertised for this week.
Birth notices report a son for Mr. and Mrs. Lester Deal near Marshall on March 11. A daughter named Julia Mason Davis arrived for Mr. and Mrs. Geo. N. Davis of Macon on March 23. Judge and Mrs. Samuel Davis celebrate a grandchild. Prof. and Mrs. H. H. Edmiston welcomed a child on March 22. Mrs. Edmiston staying with her mother in Warrensburg. A daughter arrived for Mr. and Mrs. W. B. Grimes near Slater on March 16.
Mr and Mrs Wall Wisdom and daughter Frances with Mrs Mary Goets arrived from Arrow Rock yesterday to attend probate court business.
Governor Hadley toured Southeast Missouri visiting Dunklin Cape Girardeau Sikeston and St Louis areas. He addressed Democrats and Republicans praising a new spirit in Missouri politics while inspecting drainage projects to reclaim swamps and boost farming mining and settlement. He endorsed responsible drainage and land improvement amid calls for industry growth and population increase in the region.
