Republican nominating convention for County Superintendent
The Republican convention met at Marshall's courthouse to nominate a candidate for County Superintendent of Schools. Temporary chairman R. C. Hanna and secretary R. Sam Hays led a credentials committee and permanent organization. On reconvening, J S S Hoff, L M Nelson and W C Fisher stood for the office, with Huff winning on the first ballot by 64 to 16 to 9, his courteous demeanor praised as indicating good school leadership ahead if elected.

Death of St. Louis tenor Charles Humphrey
Charles Humphrey, a well known St. Louis tenor and music teacher, shot himself in his study on Wednesday. He feared losing vocal power after a protracted illness. Miss Virginia Young, a local vocal student of Humphrey, is named in the account. His death is described as a severe loss to the musical world and a sad end to a young life.
