California Cousin of Lewiss Dies of Consumption

A woman in California died about a month ago from consumption. She was a cousin of Add C. Lewiss and had formerly lived in Saline. The death occurred near a stove where she fainted, and she died soon after.

Suicide Attempt Averted Near Marshall Floral Co

A young man living near Marshall Floral Co attempted self harm on Saturday by taking laudanum. Dr Phelan was summoned and revived him. While helping him up the man read a sign by an undertaker and remarked that the message reflected his mood.

Conway's residence was struck by a Monday fire. Prompt fire department work prevented total loss, with damage estimated at several hundred dollars.

N C Bishop, Express agent, fell from a truck at the C A depot Tuesday noon and sustained bruises. He is not seriously hurt and may be confined to his room for about a month. Isaac C Sydensticker, previously ill, showed improvement yesterday. Mike Sandidge plans to leave for San Angelo to join his brother. He inherited a house and lot in Marshall from his late aunt Mrs Isbell and now uses crutches after a mule kick. Mr and Mrs Adrian Driscoll of Slater announce the birth of a girl on Jan 22.

It has been practically decided to let work on the Panama canal by contract to the lowest bidders. The canal will be divided into sections so that smaller firms can compete.

A loud shriek of fire caused a wild panic at St. Paul’s Baptist Church in Philadelphia Sunday night. Eighteen colored people died and about forty others were injured as worshippers rushed to the street, though the church was not crowded.

A young man attacked fourteen St. Louis girls and women on Monday with a pocket knife. He jostled a girl and stabbed her body as he moved away. Injuries are described as minor. the assailant escaped before capture.
