Grand Jury Indicts Three in Murder and Robbery Case
On Thursday morning at 10 o'clock Clayton Haggard John W Haggart and Watson Wood alias Jack Wood were brought into court and pleaded not guilty to murder in the first degree and robbery Indictments were served Counts include robbery of the C and A depot on September 7 and forcing H H Mowry to surrender 2444 to the Chicago and Alton line Trial set for March 6 1901 Judge Rich denied a motion to squash the indictment The grand jury also named witnesses including H H Mowry Edith Terry and others from Kansas City Public interest remains high in these proceedings.The special grand jury also heard further testimonies leading to the indictments naming Lee P Wiley as foreman and witnesses list on the back of the indictment contains many Kansas City residents. The Saline county officials including a new county official slate were sworn in with R W Hickman succeeding Judge T W King as district judge and Sams B Thompson becoming assessor. Sheriff K T Ham of Slater appointed deputies Frank I Ayres and Chas H Bacon.
