R M Williams known as Uncle Dick died at 9:30 am on Tuesday from pneumonia after a fall and arm fracture on Oct 16. Born December 10, 1821 in Dayton Ohio, he moved to Saline almost fifty years ago and was a faithful Christian church member. Funeral services were held at his residence led by Elder B T Wharton.

Frank Williams died Saturday morning December 17 1910 at Jas McGuire residence in Sweet Springs after a brief visit. Cause given as acute indigestion. He was a widower with six children scattered. one son resides near Knob Noster. Body sent Sunday to Knob Noster for burial per the Sweet Springs Herald.

Matthias Ham aged 62, a former resident of this county and brother to Jesse, R. T., and Adam Ham, died at his home near Mound City Missouri on Saturday December 10. He is survived by his wife and six children. Jesse and Adam Ham reached the funeral in time. R. T. Ham was in Kansas City and could not attend due to late notice.

Fatal Christmas Quarrel Near White's Island
A Christmas day clash near White's Island left William Weaver fatally wounded after he shot Mrs. Hezekiah Smith. Weaver died at 6 p.m. witnesses say Mrs. Smith was wounded, and Smith and his sons Dave and Aaron attacked Weaver. The Smiths were jailed after arriving in Marshall to pay a fine. The feud between families had simmered before the tragedy.

Receipts of cattle this week were light with cattle prices up 26 to 35 cents from last week. Heavy cattle sold around 6.00 to 6.35. No fancy yearlings in sight, demand for common heifers steady at 3.75 to 4.25, not much outlet for good kinds. Cows up 15 to 25 cents, bulls steady, stockers and feeders strong. The Missouri Valley Mercantile Co owner of the New York Racket buys the stock and fixtures of Taylor's Department Store. J W and Frank Taylor will take stock and join the New York Racket. Taylor's closes Saturday night and the New York Racket continues business. The merger creates one of the state’s largest firms outside the big cities, with bigger buying power and lower costs. The New York Racket sales this year exceed last year by 30,000 and total 225,000. Taylor's, established four years ago, showed strong growth with this year’s business up 12,000 from last year.

Robbery and Capture Endangering Sedalia Deputy Sheriff
Charles Herndon deputy sheriff of Saline County was robbed of 1010 dollars and held for fourteen hours by five men in Sedalia. He was beaten and injured with a fractured skull, then disappeared with the assailants after a staged arrest. A bank draft for 1000 from Marshall was taken. He later escaped during a feigned trip for oranges. condition listed as very low.

Train Conductor Loses Leg In Christmas Day Accident
William Ligon conductor on freight train No 127 of the C A, a Slater resident, had a bad accident at Bowling Green while switching. He fell from a moving engine, was run over, and lost a leg. He was taken to Mexico and later returned home to Slater to his family.

The Ruff Sold S B Carey has sold the Ruff hotel to James G Linegar of Kansas City who will take charge next Sunday. Carey then bought the Inez hotel in Kansas City from Linegar and will move there to assume control at once. The Inez is an 80 room hotel and friends of the Careys regret their departure but wish them success in the new venture. Linegar is an experienced hotel man and is welcomed with his wife to our city.

Hummer Collision Kills Three in Missouri Tragedy
About 3.30 Tuesday morning a Hummer collided with a freight train at Farber Missouri killing the passenger train engineer Bon Davis of Slater and his fireman M J Crabtree and the freight flagman H M Flora of Slater. The crash halted the main track for hours. Unclear blame leaves whether the flagman slept or the engineer failed to see signals. Passengers unharmed.
