New Manitoba Products to Be Shown in Winnipeg Exhibit

Hon Gurney Evans announced 80 new products from 50 Manitoba manufacturers will be displayed in Eaton's Donald Annex from October 6 to 14. The exhibit covers four entry classes including absolutely new items, first time Manitoba productions, improved products, and licensed-manufactured items.

Birdtail River School Division Meeting Held at Shoal Lake

The Birdtail River School Division met September 12 1961 with attendees including pson Gamey Reynolds Fraser Hunter and Inspector Funk. Minutes of September 7 approved. various correspondence noted and actions proposed including shared costs for surplus laboratory equipment and high school library books, plus plans for graduation in Kenton and the appointment of a truant officer.

Melvin Lloyd Douglas 52 Dies in Hamiota Hospital

Sympathetic friends gather at McDonalds Chapel Hamiota to pay respects to Melvin Lloyd Douglas who died September 10 after a long illness. Born in Crandall August 30 1909 he served in the Air Force in World War II. He married Winnifred Haysom March 24 1948 and lived in New Westminster before returning home. Survived by wife two brothers two sisters and numerous relatives. Funeral conducted by Rev W Christie. Interment Arrow River cemetery with pallbearers named.

Manitoba Veterinary Association Pushes Bangs Disease Vaccination

The Manitoba Veterinary Medical Association urged stronger efforts to wipe out Bangs disease in the province. It noted 82 percent of Manitoba's female calves were vaccinated in 1960 and called for full participation by livestock inspectors to ensure all eligible calves are vaccinated with Strain 19 Brucella. By laws mandate vaccination from four to eleven months by a veterinarian, with inspectors and penalties for noncompliance. nearly all municipalities and districts have compulsory vaccination areas.

The Miniota Merry Stitchers 4-H Sewing Club held an organizational meeting on Friday afternoon with 19 members enrolled. Officers chosen include President Diane Williams and Secretary Jean Montgomery. Mrs O Blaich resumes leadership with a team of assistants. Cathy Hankin and Judy Bryant spoke on 4-H camp at Killarney.

Mimota W.1 CNIB Canvass Sponsorship Solicitations

Our donation helps CNIB bring the world to the finger taps of the blind. The 4 A Service Program Rehabilitation Recreation Residence Care and Research extended by CNIB to the blind persons of our Province requires to be maintained and expanded. The Prevention Program keeps watch over vision difficulties. Door to door canvasses involve various organizations. In Miniota the Women's Institute sponsors the canvass for the week of September 25 30. Volunteers will contact you or remit to CNIB Winnipeg.

Mary Edmundson widow of R B Edmundson dies at Beulah

Mrs Mary Edmundson widow of the late Robert Brownell Edmundson died September 6 1961. Born in Appleby England in 1882 she served as a nursing sister in WWI and came to Canada in 1918. Survived by two daughters Mrs Rosemary Kitching Victoria BC and Mrs Daphne Medd Beulah Manitoba a son John Bongate Farm Beulah six grandchildren two sisters in England. The funeral was at St Wilfrid s Beulah conducted by Rev J M Buck.
