Miniota Girls Lose Close Games at Hamiota Tournament

Miniota teams fell to Shoal Lake and Birtle in Friday basketball at Hamiota with two tight contests. Linda Goodwin was a finalist in Thursday’s Oratorical Contest in the Collegiate auditorium and advances to the divisional finals in Hamiota on October 29. Lynne Wiltshire finished as runner-up. Wednesday’s “Get to Know Your School Night” drew a worthwhile crowd for an evening of activities.

Miniota Afternoon U C W Meet Highlights

The October meeting of the afternoon unit of the UCW at Mrs. D. Douglas home had 11 members present with Mrs. F. Rowan in charge. Worship led by Mrs. G. Reynolds focused on thanksgiving to God. A study introduced by Mrs. Wes Leland discussed Trinidad and local topics with a flip chart aid.

Spelling and Oratorical Contests at Miniota

Contestants from Beulah Crandall Isabella and Miniota competed in spelling and oratorical events under the Manitoba Association of School Trustees. Sandra Heise won spelling with Irene Clark as runner up. both advance to Division finals in Hamiota on October 29. Linda Goodwin and Lynne Wiltshire placed first and second in oratory. both advance to Division finals. Glee Club performed two songs and Rev. K Murdoch offered feedback.

Attendees at the Brandon Polled Shorthorn sale include Jim Kirton Bill Leland Ken Mitchell and Mr Lean where the champion bull sold for 1500.00. Maureen High School finalists were to hear Maria Doherty at the Miniota event. Maria Doherty attended the Amy Shepherd wedding weekend with Miss Betty Evans of Wawanesa.

Community Happenings In Miniota Transcona and Surrounds

Local notices recount visits guests from Winnipeg and Transcona returning home, family illnesses, and guests with W. Currie in Virden. Christian Witness Meeting at Birtle Well Attended

A Service of Christian Witness on Laymen's Sunday at St. George's Anglican Church, Birtle, drew a good crowd. Three panelists Asick Antonation and McKean from the Liberal NDP and Social Credit parties spoke for three minutes each on Medi care Agriculture Federals Provincial and international relations before a written Q A period. Rev. David Flint led the service and discussion. The panelists thanked Rev. Flint and praised the church's concern for national affairs and active interest.

Miniota W I Meet at Community Centre October 15

The Miniota W I met in the Community Centre on October 15 with 17 members and 5 visitors. Mrs C Armitage presided. The group sang the Institute Ode and noted the motto about a man wrapped in himself. Roll call asked thoughts on Halloween. Mrs Dibblee was appointed new representative for Hospital Aid. Mrs Goodwin reported on Mrs Matheson’s Hoodless Homestead visit. Mrs J Cook showcased stuffed dolls and animals, admired by all. Hostesses were Mrs Wm LeLond and Mrs Wes Lelond.

The Explorers held their re organization meeting on Monday evening. Isabella U C W Meet at Mrs Scarths Dinner

Mrs R Scarth hosted the afternoon unit of the U C W for a dinner at her home on Tuesday. Mrs J Finkbeiner led the Thanksgiving devotional and Mrs R Campbell gave the scripture lesson. Sixteen attendees included eight members and two visitors. The group planned a fall rally for November 2 at Decker and heard retreat highlights from Qu Appelle Saskatchewan with emphasis on the music program.

Miniota Cubs and Scouts Registration Night

Registration for cubs and scouts in Miniota will be held October 27 at 7 30 pm in the Community Centre. All parents interested in cub and scout work are urged to attend. The group thanks Mr and Mrs Jack Katsuke for handling the sale of Scout candies and the committee for their support.
