Miniota Rural Council Holds October 5 1965 Meeting

General meeting at the Municipal Office Miniota Manitoba with Reeve H S Hyndman presiding. Items include letters from provincial assessment branch appeals, Southwest Manitoba Development Corporation, and Manitoba Centennial Corporation. By laws read and passed. court of revision adjourned. Trans-Canada Pipeline appeal increased to 106 822 dollars. 1966 assessment rolls adopted.

Miniota Students Shine In 2 Mile Cross Country Race

Five Miniota students competed in a 2 mile cross country event at the Birtle Indian School on October 7, 1965 among 56 girls. Elaine Zorn won, Noreen Wadham was second, Delaine Zorn third, Mona Morton eleventh, and Kathy Rollo forty fourth.

Wilda Lockhart Enters Into Rest

Funeral services for Wilda Jane Lockhart, accident victim at Miniota on October 4 1965, were held October 7 at Arrow River United church. Interment at Arrow River cemetery with pallbearers Bob Gardham Garry Leland Ken Haines David Hanlin Mac Leland Steven Bunn. Survived by parents Vernon and Flora Lockhart two brothers Arthur and Murray and paternal grandparents Nelson and Mrs Lockhart.

UNICEF Hallowe'en collects aid for children

UNICEF Hallowe'en in Canada blends fun with charity as kids dress in costumes and carry UNICEF boxes. Funds support the International UNICEF budget for food clinics hospitals and schools to combat hunger disease and ignorance and aid children in need.

Crandall 4 H Garden Club Honors 1960s Season

The final results show Wilma Hankin as Champion and Sharon Henderson as Reserve Champion for the Crandall 4 H Garden Club. Seven members earned Red Ribbons: Carolyn Collie, Brock Wallace, Shirley McLean, Joyce Butler, Ronnie Smith, Hazel Ariss, and Edith Ariss. A very successful year was completed.

Beulah UCW Holds October Meeting at Church

Beulah UCW met on Wednesday October 6 in the church with six members present. President Mrs Chisholm chaired the session, opening with the group’s purpose and prayer. Miss M Paynter presented a Trinidad paper with letters from pupils, and offerings were dedicated before the Mizpah benediction.

Marlene Shepherd Honoured at Shower for October Bride

A shower in the Church basement honored Miss Marlene Shepherd, an October bride elect. Corsages were given to her and relatives Mrs. W Shepherd and Mrs. L Amy, with Mrs. McCall, Mrs. S McCall, and others attending. A contest was led by Mrs. J Edmundson and gifts were presented by Karen Edmundson and Sharon Cooper. The bride elect expressed thanks and lunch followed.

The Arrow River U C W held a regular meeting at Mrs. R E Clegg's home with Mrs. D Leland presiding. Topics included ministerial call discussions, Christian education, stamps project, UNICEF Halloween plans, and events like a cattle sale catering and a November 2 trustee banquet. The group prayed for Dr Schwitzer and noted Bible studies and radio services.
