Fourteen high school girls form seven teams and volunteer one evening a week for an hour and a half to assist hospital nurses. Six boys also helped by picking potatoes on short notice during a cold afternoon. The hospital seeks more potatoes to meet shortages this year.
Local notes recount visits by Isabella residents and relatives from Winnipeg Regina and Ottawa for Thanksgiving and nearby holidays. Announcements include births Alison John Heise and Carol Louise plus a wedding in Edmonton and Garth Johnson’s posting to Germany for three years with the RCAF.
The divisional board met October 12 1967 at 8 p m in Shoal Lake with Trustees Rankin Stimpson Fulton Selby Randell and Clark and Superintendent Wm C Davison present. Items included correspondence from Osler Hammond Nanton on liability insurance and a request to approve payments for renovations at St Lazare Collegiate and for transport costs. The board adopted minutes from September 28 1967 and approved financial statement 9 67 for payment. They authorized car plugs installation at Colper in Birtle and retroactive vehicle extension for October 2 1967, and adjourned to meet October 23 7 p m.
News from Saska toon and surrounding towns notes visits weddings and celebrations. Families visit in Winnipeg Brandon Vancouver and Chilliwack BC with October 21 wedding plans. UCW meeting opened with Giving and Sharing discussion and a report on a paper doll people theme.
A Home and School group formed in Miniota during a October 3 meeting at the Collegiate Institute with presiding officer T Perry McCallum and acting secretary Mrs T L Horner. Officers include Mrs Douglas Leland Arrow River T P McCallum Mrs William Pierce Beulah and Mrs C A It. The group will affiliate with the Manitoba Home and School Association and meetings occur the first Tuesday monthly. Teachers and parents of elementary students and others are invited to attend for feature talks group discussion and social time. Principal Larry Muldowan outlined advantages and better understanding.
