Seven Divisions Seek Second Vote on School Reorganization

At least seven divisions show interest in a second vote on establishing new school divisions. Education officials report a deadline of November 6 for applying, with actual voting around December 15. Applications require a petition of 35 percent of resident variations or district petitions, though a government press release misreported 50 percent instead of 80 percent.

G Sutherlands Feted 25th Wedding Anniversary in Isabella

A gathering at Mr and Mrs George Sutherland home on Tuesday evening October 17 honored their 25th wedding anniversary. Friends heard Johnny Finkbeiner read the address and Donald Martin presented a wall clock. The Sutherlands were ve rs erland of Birtle. A social lunch followed. Earlier the family had a dinner at George Lawn’s home with relatives.

Robert Bell Dies in North Bay Transit Collision

Funeral services were held for Robert Craig Bell at Omond Memorial Church with Rev. Robert McCrea officiating. Bell, born October 10, 1925 in Miniota, Manitoba, eldest son of Mr. and Mrs. David Bell, died in a two car head on collision October 9 near Sturgeon Falls. A Navy veteran of World War II, he had lived in North Bay seven years and worked for Weddifield.

Pioneers Honored At Miniota Centennial Awards Banquet

A Centennial Awards banquet in Miniota on October 18, 1967 honored local pioneers and the Golden Age Group, with 100 attendees. Reeve Harvey Hyndman chaired a short program. Pioneers 68 and older received awards, oldest lady Mrs. Fred Cooper of Uno, 86, was presented a bouquet. Entertainment by Mr. J. Cook and corsages were given to several attendees.

Miniota UCW Hosts Holy Trinity WA Meeting

Holy Trinity WA members visited Miniota UCW last Thursday to discuss union progress between the two churches. Rev J Pill ing and Rev J Nield answered questions while Mrs F Rowan led inquiring dialogue. A UCW Rally is planned for November 1 in Miniota. next General Meeting on November 2. Golden Age Group event and Bazaar date set.

Miniota W I Meet At Community Centre Meeting

The Miniota W I met at the Community Centre with 13 members present led by Mrs. Ellerington. The creed was recited in unison and roll call on the United Nations was prepared by Mrs. Stewart. A bake sale sponsored by the WI benefited the Children's Aid. The group catered the Golden Age banquet on October 18. A booklet is to be compiled and letters praising Histories were received. The meeting opened with a song and a panel discussion on You and Your Public was led by Mrs. Armitage with Mrs. Lelond and others.

Mrs J Elliott Feted For Cream Shipper Service

Friends from Beulah Crandall Isabella and Miniota surprised Mr J Eliott of Crandall on October 14 praising his fourteen to fifteen years as a steady driver for Manco Creamery. Don Kennedy of Shoal Lake presented Sonny with a pole lamp and purse of honey.

Gymkhana at Oak Lake highlights local riders

Members of the Minjota Riding Club competed in a Gymkhana sponsored by Oak Lake Riding Club at Oak Lake rink on Saturday evening October 14. Winners included Faye Bryantist in Pole Bending and Musical Chairs, Heather Thompson with a 2nd in Pole Bending, John Hodgins 3rd in Trail Class, Stu Taylor 2nd in Mens Barrels and Trail Class plus 2nd in Western Pleasure, Wilson Haines 4th in Western Pleasure, and Jim Stanley 2nd in Senior Pole Bending and 2nd in Trail Class.
