Birtle Student Wins Three Awards at Graduation
The Miniota School Auditorium hosted the Pirdfail River School Division graduation on Saturday October 6. Forty eight pupils graduated with several away at university or jobs. Hugh Allen McLean of Birtle won three medals for maths physics and highest aggregate, Linda Leland of Miniota and Carol Ann Foster of Kenton also earned top awards and a Isbister Scholarship.

Ratepayers Meeting Cancelled and 1962 Budget Highlights
The annual ratepayers meeting was canceled after only two rate payers attended. Reeve Hyndman provided a concise summary of council work, with a 1962 budget of $189,830.95 covering schools and municipal needs. Last year showed a $7,500 operating surplus. this year surplus funds will keep the overall tax levy unchanged.

David Wright died October 6 1962 at Hamiota Hospital. Beloved husband of Annie Wright of Isabella Manitoba. Funeral October 8 from Mc Connell’s Funeral Chapel Hamiota conducted by Rev J Sloan United Church honorary elder. Interment Isabella Cemetery. Survived by widow one son Lorne two daughters Rose and Marion two brothers Arch and Harvey one sister Mrs Argo Smith three grandchildren and one great grandchild.
