Manitoba cattlemen urged to file for beef and cow slaughter payments

Agriculture Canada notes that Manitoba cattlemen may receive deficiency payments under the beef stabilization and cow slaughter programs. Eligible cattle sold between Aug 12, 1974, and Aug 11, 1975, qualify for 48 cents per hundredweight live weight, about 4.80 per animal, with the program projecting over 2.5 million head slaughtered and $12.5 million in payments. Cows slaughtered between Nov 16, 1974, and Apr 30, 1975, may receive about 50 per head, with specific eligibility rules and proof of sale required. Mobile Meals Program aids Health Centre clients

The Health Centre reports the Mobile Meals Program began in July 1974 and serves 3,273 meals in the first year. Twenty-six clients receive noon meals, twenty-five in Hamiota, with Oak River also participating. The service helps those unable to cook or convalescing, offers special diets, and allows flexible meal frequency and durations.
