Gooses as Weeders Boosting Crops and Profits Across Canada

Agriculture Canada notes geese can weed fields saving $30 to $100 per acre while supplying meat. Geese avoid alfalfa and several crops, thrive on pasture, and require minimal winter shelter. They mature in 10 to 22 weeks with 40 pounds of feed and are suited for waste- acre grazing near buildings and along roads. Limited markets remain the main drawback.

Heavy rains reduce local feed quality. Manitoba Agriculture recommends economical 200 day rations using mostly hay or straw. Cows need 2 to 3 tons roughage. grain 0.5 ton. protein supplement 1 lb daily. Calves 1 to 1.5 tons complete feed. yearlings 2 tons. Include soybean or rapeseed meal with mineral and vitamin supplement if available.

Park Residence News Visitors and visits over Thanksgiving

Park residents and visitors are listed among Mrs. E. Bald’s guests for a few days including Elsie Petty and her daughter. Greta Eastham of Winnipeg, Jean Tweed visiting Fort McMurray, and extended visits by Mr. and Mrs. Ivanestie and Sherree. Hemphill and Sarah Barnes travel by bus from Shoal Lake to Winnipeg for Thanksgiving. Marie Arnold of Winnipeg visited her mother Cowling. she will visit other relatives. E. Duncan visited Reston and traveled to Kisby Sask. Congratulations to Mrs. S. Stewart on the birth of her great grandson in Hamlet hospital. parents are Ken Fortune and Glen Stewart’s family.
