Agriculture Minister Eugenie Onuma announces four producers under the 4 percent beef stabilization scheme for August 12, 1974. The plan aims to regulate slaughter quality in the 1975 cattle market, covering A B and C grades.
Mrs Bea McLean LPN attended an Opportunity Plus Level I workshop in Gili sponsored by the Department of Tourism Recreation and Cultural Affairs. The six day course aimed to help senior citizens enjoy leisure time and foster leadership. A Level III follow up is possible. Leaders shared ideas and prepared to become community resource persons.
Mrs McLean and staff led a multi discipline seniors workshop featuring physical fitness, crafts, nature hikes, and visits to a Handicapped Children's Camp. Speakers including Drs and social workers urged active involvement and motivation, with observers invited but not admitted.
Visitors at Mrs. Cave's home included Mrs. B Wait Mrs. Thomson of Brandon and Mrs. Walker of Grandview. Mrs Violet Campbell left for Ontario with her son in law and daughter. Best wishes for Mrs Schacht in hospital. Sympathy extended to the Smith family and Mrs Belle Mansell. condolences to Mr Bill Philips on his brother's Brandon funeral. Betty Hames from Kent Wallace McKay of Regina and Les Hod gins of Virden visited the Hartnells.
The Manitoba Premier Edward Schreyer and cabinet members met with Manitoba Community Newspapers Association leaders at the Legislative Building in Winnipeg in a historic first. The briefing by Ian Mackenzie covered rural decentralization, government advertising, training with Red River College, and a proposed Community Press Council. Publishers pressed for feasibility studies to aid small papers, greater central buying plans, and continued support for readership surveys while noting tendering and distribution concerns.
