Forage crops need fall time to build winter reserves. Do not let cattle or sheep graze to ground in fall. If alfalfa exceeds 45 percent in the mix, apply phosphorus based on soil testing. fall is best, though spring also works. The Hamiota Light Horse and Pony Club will reorganize on October 17 1969 at 7 30 p.m. in the Hamiota Community Room.
The Birdtail River School Division No 38 held its regular meeting in Shoal Lake on October 2 1969 at 8 p.m. Trustees Fulton Rapley Armitage Butcher Hames Hyndman Fallon Lewycky Randell Selby Waddell were present. The board approved minutes received and correspondence, accepted resignations, approved transportation and living allowances for several students, contracted bus drivers for routes 49 and 50, and adjourned to meet again October 9 1969 at 8 p.m. The meeting adjourned at 11:30 p.m.
The Isabella Community annual meeting Tuesday evening at the Community Centre was led by chairman Dave Heise. Minutes were read by Russell Clark. Hall Report showed income decline and a bank balance of 732.05 dollars. Committee for coming year includes J E Finkbeiner as Chairman and Mrs T Stewart as Secretary with C Norrie Tom Stewart L Wright and Russell Doran. New Year’s Dance set for December 30 with Pete Lamb’s orchestra. Rink Committee names A Norrie A Heise R Still M Bell S Teasdale L Irwin E Doran John Wall. Councillors report covered Highway 24 rebuild the Hutterite Question Estate Tax Boundaries Recreation and libraries. Tom Stewart praised and asked to serve another two year term. Murray Bell and Doug Harrison to represent on Recreation Committee. Red Cross convenor Mrs R Stewart reported canvas and 142 dollars received. Cemetery Committee reappointed. Boundary Changes discussed. a committee to oppose the plan was named. Centennial celebration urged with involvement from all committees.
The October Isabella Women’s Institute gathering at Mr. and Mrs. John Coxworth’s home included a humorous opening poem, roll call speeches, and committee reports. Red Cross sewing shipments, hospital kitchen purchases, and new drapes were noted, while Mrs. Grace Jasper’s national secretary appointment and the 50th anniversary of the Institute in Isabella were highlighted. Nesbitt Enterprizes prepared the program Are You Listening with a Wind recording prompting discussions on listening. Mrs. J Wall won the draw.
A Sunday evening program drew 24 attendees with hymns readings and prayers. Mrs. Collie spent six weeks with relatives in Vermilion Bay Ontario and Winnipeg. Katherine Ann Black visited her grandmother on the way from Jasper to Sydney Nova Scotia. She will travel to Australia. Mrs. Cormack remains hospitalized since Friday with best wishes for a quick recovery.
