Walker couple hosts Golden Wedding Anniversary event

Mr and Mrs Hugh Walker celebrated their Golden Wedding Anniversary on November 11 with a afternoon reception in Miniota attended by two daughters Beatrice Corneillie and Joan Leary three sons Gordon Arnold and Keith Walker and other family. Granddaughter F Lampitt assisted with the guest book and a three tier cake was the centerpiece. Twelve grandchildren and several relatives sent floral gifts and telegrams while Keith presented two matching platform rockers. An evening family dinner at Virden with additional relatives followed.

Anniversary Celebration For Mr and Mrs Bill Peel

Mr and Mrs Bill Peel celebrated their Silver Wedding Anniversary on Tuesday evening November 9. Guests included Mr and Mrs Charlie Peel of Foxwarren Mr and Mrs George Peel and Mrs R Peel. The Wynona community presented the couple with a chrome tray and sugar tray set.

The Sleeping Dragon and Tuberculosis Fight

Tuberculosis has long been a foe and Christmas Seal drives fund ongoing surveillance. The 1965 seal underscores public complacence risking a sleeping dragon that can awaken to active disease in about one fifth of the population. Mobile testing and chest x rays are funded by Christmas Seal contributions year round.

District Happenings At Miniota School Board Dinner

The Miniota Municipal school board hosted teachers and staff at Arrow River on November 2. Guests enjoyed turkey with angel cake and ice cream served by the U C Women. The event featured a court whist party in Centre with Tupperware demos and a luncheon. Nearby visits included Virden and Brandon guests and travel to Winnipeg for medical advice.

Remembrance Day Service Noted In Local School

At the Arrow River meeting Gladys Clegg presented the poem November 11 honoring service members and veterans. Members and two visitors answered roll call with gifts for a Brandon Christmas distribution to mental health patients.

Arrow River U C W Meet At Mrs Leland Home

The Arrow River UCW November meeting was held at Mrs. Douglas Leland’s home with her presiding. Devotion from Cragg’s book urged church changes and a wider devotion. A hymn sing followed, offerings were received, and a dedication prayer was offered by the president.

Bazaar and Relief Effort Reported by Local Society

Time slot 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. notes read by Mrs. Sutherland include a thank you from Mr. Cooper of Uno for clothes for Indian Reserves and a letter from Sandy Fiett about quilts for the Northern Mission. A December 10 bazaar at 3 p.m. in church parlors was set with two Christmas gifts needed. Funds of $25.50 were raised for UNLCEF.

Beulah notes weekend visits as Lindenbachs travel to Winnipeg and Fred Bickford and Gerry Gow spend the Armistice Day at home. The Beulah U C W held a meeting Friday November 5 at 2 00 pm with President Mrs J Chisholm presiding Eleven members attended The group opened with a Purpose reading and studied Gods Man Jesus Christ A guest speaker Mrs R Scarth spoke on the P C T C Retreat and announced Fall Rallies in Kenton November 17 and Oak River November 22 A lunch plan was set for the Annual Pool The group made a clothing and Christmas parcel delivery and two shut in calls were logged A special meeting on November 12 discussed reports and budget The next meeting is set for January with Mizpah Benediction and lunch served
