Obituary of Robert Walker Passes in Elkorn Hospital

Robert Walker died October 23 at Elkorn Hospital after a fall in Elkhorn district. Born in Scotland, he lived in Moose Jaw before farming locally. He served as Jeffery School secretary treasury and belonged to St Andrews Society. Surviving: daughter Mrs P Cameron and brother Hugh Miniota. Funeral October 25 in Elkhorn with Rev R D Johnstone, buried Elkhorn cemetery. This is the third family death since June 1958.

Spelling Contest and Oratorical Event Planned in Shoal Lake

The Manitoba School Trust Association sponsors a spelling contest and oratorical competition at Ukrainian Hall Shoal Lake on November 7 starting 7 30. High School students may enter the speaking contest and those up to grade eight may enter the spelling contest Diane Williams will represent the local school in the oratorical competition

Beef Calf Club Meet at Miniota Reorganizes for Year

Miniota Beef Calf Club held its first meeting at J. Hanlin’s home on October 23 with fourteen members. Officers were Grant Brown president Larry Walker vice president Ed Jolley secretary treasurer Murray Peel reporter. Jack Hanlin leads for a second year. new members are Bob Walker Jack Reynolds Bob Draper Kevin Leland and David Hanlin.

Members of the Associated Commercial Travellers praised the October 25 program at the Miniota Community Centre in aid of TB preventive work. The event featured 24 items from several communities and awarded talent prizes to Minsota Junior Vocal Ensemble, James Kirton, and Sharon Bowles.

Members of the Canadian Girls in Training held a Halloween dance with costumes judged by Mrs. J Cook and others. Prizes included ladies and mens categories, couples costumes, and a comic pair. Mothers and children invited. event sponsored by United Young People to raise funds for UNICEF.

Hospital Aid Meeting Lists Districts and Nursery Renovation

Eleven districts attended the Hamiota District 7 Hospital Auxiliary meeting at the Municipal Hall. Reports noted fruit and vegetables delivered to the hospital for the annual appeal and a $500 allocation to renovate the nursery. W F Andrew outlined hospital operations and new government insurance plans, stressing ongoing aid importance.
