Final Annual Meeting of Birtle Presbyterial Women’s Missionary Soc
The thirty sixth and final annual meeting was held in Russell on May 9 with 109 in attendance. Delegates heard reports, remembered nine members, and learned of the new United Church Women structure. Miss Annie Thexton spoke on Indo China and Hong Kong work, and the day closed with installation of officers and a communion service.

Meeting of Birdtail River School Division held at Shoal Lake on May 12 1961 with trustees Fulton Selby Stimpson Gamey Reynolds Fraser and Hunter present. Attendees included representation from Hamiota and Principal P I Robinson. Minutes from May 6 approved. Motions include seeking adjudicators for next year’s Music and Speech Arts Festival and pay rates for election officers. a February 22 1961 motion about closing one room high school was rescinded. meeting adjourned as called by chairman.

Mrs. Wallace Bonner spent the past week in Winnipeg. Mrs. O Blaich earns a trip to Alberta with 4 H Clubs in July for her work with the Miniota Merry Stitchers. Mrs. Russell Leland underwent an ear operation at Brandon General Hospital last week. Mr. and Mrs. D J Forsyth moved into a new home on South Railway Avenue. Mr. and Mrs. W Tomiski occupy the former Forsyth residence. A severe flu wave with high temperatures disrupted community plans. Six hundred fourteen dollars was chosen for the rink fund. Mr. and Mrs. Roy McCaw and Daryle spent the weekend at Carman. Rev C A Geddes baptised several children at Mothers Day services in the United Church: Stanley Max Bohrn Dennis Hugh Robert Dean Dorothy Rae Susan Lee Cary Andrew.
