Miss Iris Lelond Feted at Community Shower

A miscellaneous shower for Miss Iris Lelond was held at the Community Centre on Thursday afternoon. Chas Goodwin led a contest while piano solos by Brian and Arlene Lelond delighted guests. Corsages went to Iris’s aunt Mrs Wes Leland and her mother Mrs M Powell. Iris thanked guests and invited them to visit the couple at their new Rivers home.

Trousseau Tea Honors Bride Elect

Mrs. Wes Lelond hosted a trousseau tea on a Saturday afternoon and evening in honor of her niece Miss Iris Lelond. Guests receiving included Mrs. Lelond and Mrs. M. Powell with extensive participation by Mrs. J. J. Henderson and others. The decor featured pink and white chrysanthemums with pink tapers while several young attendants and aides managed tea service and gift rooms.

Mary Lena Fleming Dies After Brief Illness

Mary Ina Fleming aged 80 of Minnedosa died April 3 1965 after a brief illness at the local hospital. Born Mary Lena Chipman in Nictaux West Nova Scotia she taught in Nova Scotia and Manitoba later living on the Arrow River farm before moving to Minnedosa in 1925. Surviving are daughters Anna Hamilton Winnipeg Elaine Wallace Winnipeg Doreen Wahl Whitehorse and Jacqueline Fleming Calgary and a sister Mrs R F Elliot Middleton Nova Scotia with nine grandchildren. Funeral April 6 at Minnedosa United Church officiated by Rev K Boughton interment in Minnedosa cemetery. Sanderson Funeral Home in charge.

Festival Recital At Miniota Shows Local Talent

Mrs Chas Watts and Edna Reynolds led a Community Centre recital featuring festal and other numbers. Residents performed spoken poetry vocal and piano items and choral groups with multiple choirs and speech choirs. Bonnie Bunn chaired and announced items.

Festival Recital at Crandall under three directors

A Monday evening festival recital in Crandall church featured judges and accompanist. Contestants performed Spokens Poetry, Piano Solo, and Vocal Solos with participants including Ronnie Rivers, Jayne Van Buskirk, Judy McLean, Marilyn Smith, and Barbara Smith among others. Choirs for Grades 1-4, 5-8, and 9-12 were conducted by Miss Curtis, Miss White, and Mrs Heise respectively. final results to appear next week.

George Todd Enters Into Rest

George Todd of Crandall died in Vancouver on May 3 1965 at age 83. He owned a Crandall store with his wife Alice Mark then moved to Vancouver to run the business. Funeral held in Vancouver. He is survived by wife Alice, son Edwin, three grandchildren, two great grandchildren, brother David of Saskatoon, sisters Olive Joy of Vancouver and Bertha in the U S A. The Crandall community expresses sympathy.

May Meeting of W 1 unit hosted by Mrs Doran

The May meeting at Mrs R Doran's home featured presiding officer Mrs J E Finkbeiner, a Creed recital, and a roll call for Friendship. Delegates to district and provincial conventions were named, with Mrs L Wright and Mrs J E Finkbeiner as delegates. A donation to the International Peace Garden Fund was approved and the Hospital Aid reported on the tea and sale planned for May 12 at Fraternal Hall in Hamiota.
