Bank Act Revision Expands Mortgage Options for Home Buyers

The Royal Bank explains new mortgage programs under the revised Bank Act including National Housing Act and Conventional loans. National Housing permits up to 95 percent lending value with a maximum of 18,000 dollars for new home construction, while Conventional loans go to 40,000 dollars up to 75 percent of appraised value and may refinance existing mortgages. Birdtail River Teachers Move to Lower Manitoba Pension Age

Representatives of the Bird tail River Division Association of The Manitoba Teachers Society presented a resolution at the 48th annual general meeting urging legislation to lower the retirement age for Manitoba teachers to 60. The measure cites rising early retirement trends and the heavy nervous strain of teaching. The resolution, one of at least 19 on pensions, was debated at the Marlborough Hotel in Winnipeg on March 27 28 and 29.

Expansion of Manitoba High School Examination Board

The Manitoba High School Examination Board will be revamped to include practicing teachers and Brandon College as university status is achieved. A 12 member board will have a full time chairman and six other fixed posts, plus three school inspectors. The University of Manitoba Senate will add three members to the bill.

Hon J J Greene Opens Manitoba Winter Fair in Brandon

Hon J J Greene opens the Manitoba Winter Pair fair in Brandon on Monday April 3 at 8 pm. He arrives in the afternoon, tours the fair buildings and attends a reception in the Rose Room of the Prince Edward Hotel at 4 30 pm followed by a dinner in the hotel Main Dining Room at 6 pm. The reception and dinner are open to all. Tickets for the dinner are at the Prince Edward Hotel and the Winter Fair Office Arena Building.

Miniota W I Meet Kids and Community Plans

The March meeting of the Miniota W I at the Community Centre discussed the centennial year theme Hope and St Patrick’s Day songs. Members named crafts to learn, noted Red Cross Home Nursing Course starting April 3, and planned book drives and fundraisers with notes on meals, expenditures, and a rink kitchen upgrade.
