Lions attend grand lodge convention in Brandon

Aspinwall Invited to St Mark’s 50th Anniversary Event

A. E. Aspinwall receives an invitation to attend the 50th anniversary celebration of St Mark’s Anglican Church in Ekhorn next Saturday and Sunday. He helped build the church, served as its first organist, and sang in the choir for 11 years. He also helped establish the Anglican church at Miniota as its first organist.

Thursday Show Features Broken Melody and Cartoons

The feature picture Thursday night drew a large audience with good short acts including a funny cartoon. The Broken Melody follows a young composer who becomes a cabaret singer, marries an actress, and faces tragedy before a hopeful ending. Also shown were Puddle Pranks and Homeland of The Danes. A community memorial service for Miniota is set for June 27 in Miniota Town Park with a parade, church service, and band concert. Rev Earl Dixon will speak. proceeds support service expenses.

Local News and Sports Report from Rivers and Area

Frances McAndrew of Rivers completed Normal School studies in Winnipeg and attended the Tenanist Club dance with Dorothy Wythe. The Open Air Club fundraiser cleared debt with a lunch, while Miniota swept Shoal Lake 17-1 and 15-1 in two baseball games. Miniota then beat Isabella 9-3 to earn North Section title and a home series with Bradwardine.

Local Notes and Visitors From Carberry and Brandon

Povey Warren has improved after a stroke last week. Wallace O Callaghan returns from Wapella Saskatchewan after two weeks away. Thelma and Madge Ellerlington of Carberry visited J F Tennant. Fred Elmhurst and A McKinnon of Carberry spent Sunday with J McKinnon. E Hulme and Hurst of Brandon visited E Sinclair. Locals attended the Scotia Colt Show and picnic with a grand display of Clydesdales. about 600 people attended and paid admission, with a prize listed as 300.00.
