Local notices report travels and visits of residents including Mrs A Adams and Mr W D Berwick Haw to Winnipeg for medical care in Miniota and Benito. The week also notes Mrs Boyce hospitalized Branchen, Alfred Bohm injured by a kicking horse, and memorial events if weather allows.
Phil Knowles arrived Saturday after visiting his sister in Wawanesa. He had attended the Grand Lodge Convention of the Sons of England in Brandon. A. Hanford and his daughter Mrs Mills of Vancouver, who stayed three weeks with Mr and Mrs Lindsay, left for home last week.
W E G Little serves as delegate from the Miniota Branch to the eleventh annual convention of the Manitoba Provincial Command in Kenora Ontario this week. He is accompanied by TH Harrison W Bel Douglas and RM Oliver.
June listings include a CU F Convention at Shoal Lake, a Garden Party at Beulah, a Memorial Service at Minieta, a WMS Tea at Longs, and a Dance at Arrow River. July brings Provincial Exhibition at Brandon, Birtle Sports, and a Dance at Beulah.
James Victor is born to Mr and Mrs Victor Kellys at Miniota Hospital on June 17. June Doreen arrives as a daughter to Mr and Mrs Ralph Faulconer of Winnipeg at Winnipeg General Hospital on June 1.
Fifteen years ago Alex Powell broke his foot in a baseball fall. Rev C E Somerset left for Selkirk to take charge of the Methodist church. A daughter was born to Mr and Mrs A Gurr and a son to Mr and Mrs KE Sunley. Bridge construction proceeds north of town over the CNR. Air mail routes are being surveyed for a near site at Rea with trials on June 24. Local Masons visited Minnedosa and Birtle Lodges. Grand Lodge scenes in Winnipeg elevate J W Clarke Shoal Lake and J J Henderson to senior Warden roles. Mrs C E Wythe elected to the District Board at Strathclair. Andy Grant reports a possible meteorite find on his farm, attracting scientific interest though uncertain in significance. A sample is at The Herald office after hours of digging around a surface object with a heavy impact.
Bran don nurse Norma Stowe is holidaying at her home. She was joined from the city on Monday by W McGrevor Mrs McFarlane and Miss J Watdie and M Harrison.
A number of residents say the town should address sidewalk repairs soon before deterioration increases repair costs. They believe the legislature should act to fund and oversee essential improvements to keep streets safe and accessible.
The W I met in the United church parlor on Thursday afternoon with members sharing reports from the district convention at Strathclair and the provincial convention in Winnipeg. President Mrs A Hanlin announced the Dental Clinic closed successfully with 120 children attended. The next meeting is scheduled for September.
The School Board met in town on Friday with resignations from Gwen Taylor Ethel Hembroff and Marjorie Bowman. Reports list engaged teachers Isabella Annie L Hills Beulah Catherine Bray Mimota Edmee Termaende Blaris Marion Wright. Transportation committee seeks study of routes from Kelly Stones Tomiskis and Darkers with changes raised for Miniota No 2 at 2.45 daily. Schools close June 25 reopen August 13. Spalding re-engaged at 650. If 50 pupils enroll Miniota High School Grade 12 taught free to residents with another teacher, and payments totaling 2226.06 approved. Next meeting at chairman’s call.
