T L Jasper visits Winnipeg while Miss K Lynch spends the weekend in Shoal Lake. Winnipeg residents Mrs J J Arklie and son John visit Mrs P Leam, as Horner departs for Winnipeg to join J Highbrown Hardware Co. Church figures attend a Winnipeg conference. several graduates return home for holidays.
Special speakers M J Coldwell M P and John Brown highlight the Marquette annual UCF convention to be held in Shoal Lake on Wednesday June 23 with an afternoon session at 1 30 and an evening program at 8 30. Miss EF Flannery returns home after visiting relatives Mes A Richardson and others.
A weekly feature film program previews four films including Farce in the Fog a mystery with The Fiend and journalist Jean Morgan as she aids the police pursuit. Also shown One Summer Day My Model Farm and a Flip the Frog Cartoon with a musical revue. Coming soon Coronation pictures.
The Rural Council met with Reeve Lynch in charge. It approved workmen insurance through the Workmen’s Compensation Board, recommended Albert Jolley for a $20 monthly old age pension from May 11, 1937, and discussed cemetery plots, relief notices, fencing, land leases, tax sale certificates, and audit access. The by laws 797 through 804 were read and passed. Next meeting set for July 10 at 10 a.m.
Sunday June 20 Rev Canon P Heywood of Brandon will conduct Evensong at Holy Trinity Minsota and dedicate the new chancel window. Winnipeg visitors listed include Mrs Hodnett Leland Lindsay Rapley Perry Dunlop Powell. Provincial Exhibition opens in four weeks June 28 to July 2 with Brandon Fair tickets selling in strips of four at half price offering grounds admission and future features. Brandon Fair attraction directors announce Ernie Young’s Cavalcade of Hits along with Royal American Shows and the Provincial Peony Show among other displays.
Curtiss couple welcome a daughter Maurine Adele born Saturday June 5 at Birtle Hospital Isa bella. Dunnett couple announce a daughter born Friday May 28 at Hamiota Hospital to Rev. and Mrs John Dunnett.
