MGA Changes Prompt to Move Heifers to Breeding Herd
University of Manitoba scientist Dr. Martyn Palmer says 0.4 mg MGA per head per day can move heifers to the breeding herd without significant fertility loss if MGA is stopped within 60 days. Texas trial results show 63 to 84 day MGA feeding yields high estrus but varying pregnancy rates. control group had 83 percent estrus and low pregnancy. Manitoba operators usually feed 90 to 120 days and further data are needed. Also announced is a professional tree pruner course February 8–10 at the Agriculture Auditorium, University of Manitoba Campus, to obtain a licence. contact Fred Weir, 946-7801.
