Miniota council met December 27 1962 at the Municipal Hall with most members present. Adopted minutes from December 17 1962 and opened interim audit for inspection at the Municipal Office. Approved ward overdrafts and depreciation claims, allocated sums for snow duties, and granted $400 to Reeve Hyndman for 1962. Authorized reassessment requests and future public meetings in 1963. Adjourned to January 4 1963.

Dis continued Purebred Sire Purchase Assistance Policy
The Honorable George Hutton announces the discontinuation of the Purebred Sire Purchase Assistance Policy effective February 28 1963. Introduced in 1947, the program provided 20 percent up to 80 dollars, later 15 percent up to 60 dollars, with a second purchase allowed since 1957. In sixteen years about 13 200 bulls received assistance totaling 760 000 dollars as of December 31 1962, with just over 2300 second bulls. The policy boosted progress in herds and adoption of purebred sires by Manitoba cattlemen. No applications will be accepted after February 28 and all sales must close by then.

Mr and Mrs Fred Bryant spent a few days in Winnipeg last week. The Anglican W A will meet at Mrs William Mossops home on Thursday January 17 at 2 30 PM. Mr Wm Mossop returned to Kenora after holidays with his wife and family. Mr and Mrs Allen Cameron a recent bride and groom are visiting at the home of Mr and Mrs J Cook. Mr M Kostenuk went to Winnipeg to spend Christmas with Mrs Kostenuk in hospital. Mr and Mrs Tom Ellerington and family visited Portage la Prairie last week. Congratulations to Mr and Mrs Reg Jones of Elkhorn on the birth of a son Leonard Frederick born January 7 1963 at Elkhorn Hospital. Congratulations to Miss Linda Leland who scored 97 in Chemistry on the pre Christmas exam. Linda is in first year Arts at St Johns College. Little Carol Gurr swallowed a peanut that lodged in her lung and was taken to Winnipeg for removal. she is fine now. Mr and Mrs P C Watts are visiting the coast with Mrs Watt’s mother who celebrated her 90th birthday on January 12. Congratulations to Mrs Watts a former resident.

Miniota four rinks competed in the British Consuls Play-off in Miniota on Saturday January 5. Wim Peel defeated Gordon Hamstock and John Wiens beat Rus Howard. in a rematch Wim Peel again won and will lead his rink to the zone play-off in Miniota on January 19. The Peel rink members are Wim Peel skip J Eastake third F Rrskey second and Pr Dale lead. Also noted: Mr Paul Hower of Manitoba Medical Service Winnipeg spoke at a Maniota meeting January 8 on economical service to area communities. Mrs. L Reynolds led, Mrs. J Wiens became secretary, I Long reported finances and budget, executive recommendations were adopted, a World Day of Prayer committee was formed for March 1, officers stayed the same aside from a few removals, Rev G Sloan led installation and a short worship followed by lunch.

Isabella News reports Mrs A Norrie recovering in Hamiota Hospital after an operation. Ten mixed rinks and five ladies rinks opened local curling week. Mrs C Nichol also stayed several days in hospital. Dalhousie Nova Scotia visitor Mrs W Tait joined local guests the Wright family and Mrs B Robinson from Toronto. A commit tee met with Beulah and Decker WI ladies to arrange the spring District Convention. The History Committee reported, the Red Cross Convenor noted another shipment for distribution next week. Mrs. R. Doran presented an F. W. L. C. item. S. Johnson and commentator Mrs. J. T. Finkbeiner showed “Grandmothers Quill Blocks,” followed by a gift making demonstration by Mrs. Al. Clark for children slippers. Lunch was served by Mrs. J. Coxworth and Mrs. J. E. Finkbeiner.
