Ratepayers Meet at Community Centre For Annual Meeting

Ratepayers gathered at the Community Centre Friday January 29 at 2 pm. W A Barrett named to a three year term on the village council replacing J W Horner who retired after 28 years including 17 as secretary treasurer. W J Strachan appointed Secretary Treasurer with thanks and birthday congratulations to Joe Horner.

Miniota Bonspiel Winners and Local Contests

Miniota High School hosted a January 29 31 bonspiel with 16 boys rinks and 13 girls rinks. Winners include girls top Edith Ariss and Anna May Boy. Boys champions Melvin Mavrnes and Dave Spalding with Mac Butler and Jerry Gone-coolers in second places. Money doll raffles awarded Donna Bonner Ruth Trout and Louw Gurr. February 1 Miniota girls 76 9 and boys 33 18 defeated Foxwarren teams.

Miniota Scouts Grow as New Members Join Troop

Miniota Scout Troop led by Morley Wettig and Wally Brown met December 16 with eight scouts. On January 13 three cubs joined the troop bringing total to eleven: Dale Richardson Maddy Bunn Dennis Oliver. Sixteen Cubs returned in fall 1964 plus six new Chums invested. A toboggan party was held January 24. Plans include a Father and Son Banquet February 24 and a Pancake Supper February 2.

Crandall News Crandall native shot at Edmonton factory gate

Mr. Raymond Hazlewood attends a six week electric course at Manitoba Technical Institute in Winnipeg. Mrs. H V Johnston visits Deloraine. Threnton J Richardson formerly of Crandall and Isabella districts and son of Mrs. Richardson and the late Mr. R Bob Richardson Edmonton was found gagged and shot early Thursday January 28 at the North West Industries Aircraft factory main gate in Edmonton where he worked as night guard.

U C W Meeting Notes From Scotia Group Session

Scotia Group of the U C W led the January meeting held Thursday afternoon January 28. Mrs. R Webber Mrs. G Steen Mrs. L Lipscomb and Mrs Wm Taylor conducted the Worship Service. The 1965 Budget was accepted after lengthy discussion the 1965 program was completed and a copy will be sent to each member. The North Country Group will lead the next meeting on Wednesday February 10 with the New Study Book introduced.

Isabella News: Fink beiner rink wins Birdtail curling title

Isabella News reports Jan Fink beiner and her Hamiota Collegiate rink won the Birdtail Divisional Girls Curling Championship Trophy at Strathclair on Saturday. Other team members include Dawn Bailey Decker Linda and Bonnie Mundell. They advance to meet other divisional winners at Malt Lake next Saturday. Mrs Barry Scarth of Winnipeg welcomed a daughter born February 3. Mrs R Scarth traveled to Winnipeg to meet her granddaughter. Archie Norrie’s patient at Hamiota Hospital recovering from surgery. Five ladies competed in the Decker ladies toaspiel held last week. Church session members led the service Sunday in the pastor’s absence.

Isabella W. W I meets for February at Mrs. Martin home

The Isabella W I met for their February gathering at the home of Mrs. E Martin on a Wednesday afternoon. Mrs. J E Finkbeiner led the meeting, with roll call, a day theme, and plans to serve lunches at the bonspiel. The guest speaker, Mrs. W Fulton of Birtle W I district, spoke on a Youth Conference in Ottawa. Next meeting set for March 10 with Mr. Greaves of the Children's Aid Society as guest.

Currie and Dales Return from Mexico Trip

Brodie Currie and Pat Dales returned from a trip to Mexico City where they attended a Massey Ferguson dealers convention. They stayed at the Maria Isabel Hotel and visited the university campus, the bullfighting arena, and the Metropolitan Cathedral. They noted warm hospitality from Mexican people before arriving back in Winnipeg.
