It compares substitutes like squash turnips rice and noodles, highlighting calories vitamin C and iron content and cost per serving.
The University of Manitoba hosts a five day Conference Week for Rural People from February 22 to 26. Sessions cover forage crops cereals soils animal husbandry and agricultural economics with two homemaker sessions. A plenary review of the faculties role takes place February 24 with open discussion.
The program runs with plenary sessions Wednesday and morning farm machinery talks on day three. Horticulture and agricultural economics sessions Friday cover production economics. Animal science focus Friday, hog management active. Women’s sessions Tuesday morning Feb 23 and Thursday Feb 25. Open to all with registration $1 daily or $2.40 per person or per couple for the week. Meals at the University.
Brandon College will host the Pre-College Clinic and Seminar for Grade XII students from Portage la Prairie Dauphin Swan River Manitou and Pierson on February 12 19 and 26 1965. The program offers psychological tests information on entrance requirements financial aid and guidance for college and teacher training with follow up visits to schools and Q A sessions for parents and students.
The Crandall Messengers met Friday February 5 in the church basement to study from Children In The Sun about Brazilian orphans in Southern Brazil. They learned Brazilian songs and planned a Travelling Basket donating aprons soap canned foods and other items to be exchanged when replenished.
Bob Evans is patient at John Bickford. Spent the week Mr. O F Doyle visits Winnipeg this week.
Alvin Johnson and sister from Saskatchewan planned a winter southern holiday last December traveling by car and trailer through Brandon Corpus Christi Brownsville McAllen and San Juan. They enjoyed scenery climate and farming methods. Community center notes report bonspiel results and donations with prizes including blankets kitchenware and textiles. The W I ladies served lunches as usual and the event was described as happy and successful.
Beulah home economics hosted a 4 H Public Speaking Contest on a Friday evening. Fifteen contestants ages eleven and under from Arrow River Beulah McConnell Oak River and Oakner competed with judges Garry Workman and Mrs J E Finkbeiner. D Heritage chaired and announced eight red and seven blue ribbons.
Regular meeting held at Shoal Lake on January 28 1965 with trustees Stimpson Selby Fulton Reynolds Rap Randell Rankin present. Motions adopted minutes January 19, approve financial statement 165 and reimburse attendance at Brandon trustee seminar February 11 12 1965. Meeting adjourned to February 9 1965.
Mrs. W Lockhart led the February Wi meeting at Mrs. J Wiggins home with 10 members and 2 visitors. Receipts from the bonspiel totaled 231 81. A Travel talk by Mrs. Draper of Miniota on a Britain trip followed. Evening included slides by Mr and Mrs Harvey Hyndman on Hawaii and various musical performances by Isabella and Miniota groups.

Isabella News reports Jackie Stewart and T Stewart visiting Glenboro. Winnipeg visits by Mr and Mrs John Wall and Mrs C Wall, with Mrs J Wall remaining for medical care. Sympathy to Mrs H Levins on the death of her sister Mrs Earl Bray in Kenton. Congratulations to Ken and Mrs Stewart on the birth of Brock Wesley. Decker bonspiel prizes awarded to several rink teams and the local mixed ben spiel begins Monday.
Mrs. G. Weber presided at a Tuesday evening U C W meeting hosted by Mrs. A. Adams in Isabella. Delegates were appointed to the U C W annual meeting in Birtle on February 23. Mrs. Doug Heise’s group led the Brazil Study Book on the Methodist religion in Brazil. Lunch was served by the hosting group.
The Isabella Unit UCW met at Mrs. R Campbell's home with Mrs. J T Finkbeiner presiding. Devotional theme was What can I do for World Peace. Delegates were named for the annual Birtle meeting and other notes included letters from a Korean foster child and The Plan about Kwai Ho and family.
