Miniota hosts the Dance Night and the Beulah O New Years Dance with seasonal festivities. An old note mentions giving a friend a Christmas present as thanks for summer rides and kindness.
The W M S realized about fifteen dollars at their tea held on Saturday. George Richardson is confined to his home with scarlet fever. The Sunday Schools will hold their annual Christmas party Friday night. Mr and Mrs W Hall and family of Saltcoats visit the Wm Bonner home. Miss Ina Cunningham of Winnipeg spends the holiday season at her home in town. Miss E Sazaras left Tuesday to spend the holiday season at her home in Virden. Miss Marjorie Spencer with ticket 94 won the D C England premium quilt on Saturday. Miniota hockey drops 6 0 to Isabella on Monday night.
Mrs Hawthorne visited daughter Mrs Sugden in Chicago. Mrs J Spalding returns from Winnipeg improved. Joe Henderson faces Minnedosa court for defrauding Miniota municipality with fake gopher pelts. Spalding and R Thompson to testify. Marson and Miniota played on local ice. 5 0 score, goalkeeper knocked unconscious briefly. Bull Barrett officiated.
Mrs L O Hara of Madoc Ont arrived Tuesday to spend the winter with her son and daughter Mrs J J Henderson of Miniota and E O Hara of Crandall. She is joined by granddaughter Miss Marion Henderson who will visit with her parents Mr and Mrs J J Henderson and relatives during Christmas. The Miniota school Christmas concert was canceled due to a new scarlet fever case, a decision made for everyone’s safety, with plans to resume next Christmas.
Mx. Rowan reports that the 1939 license plates are on sale, blue with white numerals beginning at 66-051. Gib does not expect any great change in price or demand.
The Blaris Womens Missionary Society held its annual meeting on Wednesday afternoon at Mrs. R L Stevenson's home. Elected for the coming year were President Mrs J Bell Vice president Mrs R S Campbell Corresponding Recording and Press Sec Miss L Miller Emergency and Strangers Sec Mrs D Sutherland Temperance Sec Mrs D Harrison Mission Band Leader Miss H Campbell Pianist Mrs Al Clark. A social time and lunch followed.
A daughter was born to Mr and Mrs H W R Gemmell. Mrs Hephzibah Settle died at her son C Ellerington s home. Cissie Price wed John McKay at Brandon. Mr and Mrs Hugh Walker Sr of Willon celebrated their Golden Wedding. Eileen Isabella Doyle married Roy Walter Bulmer at Beulah. Florence Birch wed Frewin J Davis in a ceremony led by Rev E A Andersen.
The rural council met Saturday and passed numerous resolutions. They delayed tax sale action on NW 14 and SE 22-14-26 pending Debt Adjustment Board payment, authorized January 1 1939 debentures, and ordered tax sale on NW 36-15-25. They approved charges to general and grants accounts, set by-laws on property transfers, granted 100 to J R Lynch, debated Beulah mail service, and extended appreciation to Councillor W Lindsay for two years of service.
