Grain grading tightens stone tolerance for wheat imports

The Board of Grain in Canada enforces strict stone and earth pellet limits in wheat and other grains. No 1 Northern wheat must be stone free, No 2 Northern may have one stone per 500 grams, with higher amounts degrading grades. Faulty swathing and improper reel speed cause stone contamination. proper swath laying and careful combine use reduce losses and protect grain quality. barley grading reflects stone content and adds costs but improves returns.
