A large crowd gathered in Minnesota on Saturday night November 27 to celebrate the opening of a new skating rink. Children and adults alike enjoyed music and skating, with over 200 attendees reported despite a few early hiccups.
A fragmentary note recounts a Monday morning departure under a rising sun with vivid sensory details including leaves grain coffee and bacon. It references Nellie McClung and the book Recalled to Life by M J G McMullen.
The annual meeting of the Miniota Co op Elevator Assoc opened with President J J Morton presiding and presenting the directors report. Total net income reached 13 304 86 with 59 864 bushels delivered to Manitoba Pool Elevators and 1 967 636 in total assets. Pea Packers Ltd opened in Brandon as MPE subsidiary. Directors elected for two years included Ziva Artiage Bob Gsar Ivani net and J J Morton with John Wythe as delegate and Doug Leland alternate.
The Beulah Home Economics Club met at 4 p.m. Tuesday November 16 in the school with 10 members and Mrs Gow. Due to the illness of the president Debbie Morgan was elected chairman. A skating party was planned for Sunday and Carol Gow spoke on her trip to Killarny with camp crafts shown. The next meeting is set for December 14.
At 96 James Morton reflects on Canada politics and world events from his Rupert Street home. The longtime writer and former legislative secretary recalls Mackenzie King Pearson and Diefenbaker, discusses literature, and finds comfort in faith as he ages. He ends with a birthday poem and hymn-like piano moments.
A November Friday evening gathering honored Mr and Mrs Kitz and family as they leave for Brandon. The event included gifts from many in the community, expressions of thanks for 31 years of Sunday School leadership, and well wishes for the couple and newlyweds Mr and Mrs Lipscomb. A versatile buffet and social entertainment followed.
The Birtle UGW fall meeting in Decker drew 34 attendees. Mrs. D Leland presented seven resolutions for local UCGW study. Mrs. H McGuinness shared an account of Minaki Camp. Next executive meeting is January 48 and annual meeting February 22. Fall rallies occurred at Kenton on November, Silverton on November 18, River on November 22 and 24.
Local notes record Jack Reynolds transfer from Newdale to Binsearth Royal Bank. Several Winnipeg visits and hospital stays noted, including Alex Cannon at Brandon General Hospital. Community members attend a funeral in Winnipeg and various family visits, with bank transfer of Brian Broughton to Churchil and staff schedule changes. A Christmas W I meeting is planned for December 10 with donations to Mental Hospital.
The W I held its November meeting at Mrs. tc 1 s home with a Remembrance Service led by Mrs J Chisholm. Roll call safety hints and a thought of the day A Laugh were shared. Lynne Wiltshire spoke on What is Faith for the Oratorical Contest. Hospital report and corsage reimbursement approved. Luncheon sales funded the Ways and Means. Members attended four H meetings in Hamiota and area. Betty Evans and Gayle Pierce visited from Wawanesa and Souris.
The CBC and Manitoba Department of Agriculture announce a Farm Accounting Course on CBWT CKX TV and CKOS TV. Economists will teach inventory, farm receipts, and record analysis across twelve broadcasts from November 30 to February 8 with a Christmas break. A $5 registration buys the course packet.
Crandallニュース notes Larry Hunkin attended the Winnipeg Municipal Convention last week with his wife. Peter Burr of Arrow River serves as Crandall rink caretaker. Mary Skene of Transcona visits her sister and brother in law Cliff and Mrs Lyng. Don Carnegie of The Pas visited E Shiers. J Elliott in Winnipeg visiting daughter. Jack Lawn returns home from Hamiota Hospital recovering from operation. Speedy recovery wished.
Isabella News Clare King of Winnipeg visited last week with Mr and Mrs Frank Reid and family. Jack Durker of Souris visited over the weekend with the Ariss family. Congratulations to Mr and Mrs Jim Joseph on the birth of a son in Birtle Hospital on November 16. Mrs C Wall received a surprise visit in her new home Saturday evening. Mrs J T Finkbeiner marked the twenty fifth wedding anniversary of Mr and Mrs Ted Finkbeiner. District members forwarded ninety six dollars for the Childrens Aid to Brandon. Several women attended a W I Rally at Oak River on November 22. Mrs Coxworth and Mrs Doran visited Winnipeg briefly. Frank Reid attended the Municipal Convention in Winnipeg.
Mrs Wm Leland visits her Strathclair uncle in Hamiota Hospital. U C W rally at Oak River reports a profitable time with topics and hymn singing. Bazaar planned for Friday December 10 at 3 00 pm in church classrooms with baking aprons mystery parcels produce and tea. Local families share travel and visits. Jim Clegg works on the Dam Project north of Russell.
