Farm Notes discusses selecting beef breeding stock focusing on efficiency of gain, carcass merit, desi rability and longevity. It compares feed conversion in Bassano tests, notes high gain groups incur lower feed costs, and links faster gain to carcass value while stressing muscling and replacement costs.
Local interfaith service on July 26 in Miniota school auditorium marked centennial weekend with 350 attendees and a massed choir. Rev H L Newton of Winnipeg delivered the address tracing Manitoba’s history from 1701 to 1871 and urged unity, interdependence, and Christian love to meet future challenges.
The Jim Sutherland family of North Kildonan visited Mrs. D. Sutherland on Saturday. John Gunson enjoyed a Sunday afternoon with relatives and friends. Twenty-two attendees shared a tasty fowl dinner. Appreciation extended to Mrs. Gertrude Rankin for raspberries and to Mr. and Mrs. Harvey Brown for beans. Mrs. Henderson and sister Brand vacationed at Clear Lake with Don McLennan of Brandon. Families of Mrs. Gardham visited last week. Mrs. Hunter of Kenton visited Mrs. J. Smith's, while J. Smith visited friends at Kenton. Jean Morrice of Toronto visited her grandmother Mrs. J. Morrice, with Mrs. Walker of Toronto also visiting.
Weather halted the handmade wagon raffle with August 11 set as the new draw date. Mrs Charles Randell of Hamiota won the ticket drawn by Shelly Caldwell. Reg Teal donated the wagon. $108.50 raised to buy a 16mm movie projector for in service education.
