Waterfowl Season and Limits in Manitoba Details

Manitoba announces migratory waterfowl seasons and bag limits by zone. Zone one extends Sept 1 to Nov 6 for ducks and geese. zone two Sept 6 to Nov 27. zones three and four Sept 20 to Nov 27 with goose limits unchanged. Duck daily limits rise to eight with 16 in possession. mallard caps vary by zone. canvasbacks and redheads limited to one daily. Goose daily limit five with 10 in possession. white fronted geese three daily or six in possession. Canada geese two daily in Oak Hammock area. Morning only shooting in zone four Sept 20–27 and in Oak Hammock area throughout season. Closed areas include Oak Hammock Marsh, Birds Hill Park, Riding Mountain refuges and areas. Grant's Lake and Oak Hammock retain managed hunting with permits. To hunt migratory birds, valid Canada permit, provincial licence and wildlife certificate required. certificate costs 2.25. game bird licence 4 for Manitoba residents, 20 for non residents of Manitoba, 40 for non residents of Canada. Manitobans 65+ may obtain licence free by in person application at Norquay Building or regional offices. Wildlife certificate required before licence. hunting permit purchase also required.

Miss Corley Honored at Health Centre Staff Barbecue

Miss Margaret Corley was guest of honor at a Health Centre staff barbecue July 9 at the Narrows Earle Johnston cottage. About seventy five staff and families attended. Kay Caldwell pinned a corsage of roses on Margaret and Mary Hadland praised her years of faithful service. Margaret received a popcorn ring as a retirement reward and the Centre welcomed Sherrell Fox of Langenburg Saskatchewan newly joined staff after registering as a Registered Record.

Librarian Takes Over Duties at Health Centre

A new librarian, Sherrell, has recently assumed the duties in the department left vacant by Miss Margaret Corley and resides above the Health Centre. She describes herself as more a spectator than a participant in extracurricular activities, and well wishes are extended for happiness and satisfaction in her role. A Red Cross letter of thanks honors the recent Blood Donor Clinic for Hamiota and area, noting 139 donors and praising the committee, volunteers, and donors despite it being the lowest turnout since July 1951.

Open Gym and District Programs Hit Busy August

Recreation notes from Oak River and surrounding communities recount open gym sessions for 8 to 10 year olds with Murderball and sideline basketball, date changes for the August 27 end of program, and upcoming programs in Hamiota Kenton Miniota and Harding. Volleyball for Women starts late September, Bicycle Safety Course runs with plans for two fall sessions, and a bus tour to International Peace Gardens is scheduled with pick up points and participant counts.
