September Arthritis Month in Manitoba Campaign Call

September will be marked as Arthritis Month in Manitoba by hundreds of volunteers to raise funds for The Arthritis Society. Volunteers support research based programs to benefit victims, noting arthritis as a major health problem with many forms and the potential for prevention through early diagnosis and treatment.

Manitoba Extends Crop Insurance to Forage Crops

Agriculture Minister Sam Askiw announced that cultivated forage crops grown for hay will join the full Manitoba crop insurance program starting 1977. The deadline to insure next year’s crop is September 15, 1976, with the program expanding province wide after two years of test-area coverage. Under the full plan protection covers the insured farmer’s total hay production including alfalfa, alfalfa mixtures, grasses, and sweet clover.

Health Centre News How is your Blood pressure

Health Centre in Hamiota promoted a hypertension theme at fairs and sports days, offering blood pressure checks to 252 people, with 55 from outside the district. 64 readings were abnormal, and pamphlets were provided. The piece also advised heart health in summer heat and cautioned about weight gain and daily activity.
