Barber Captures NDP Nomination in Marquette Election
Stuart Barber, barrister of Hamiota, won the Marquette NDP nomination despite a blizzard that hampered voting. Oakburn voters backed Barber after five candidates were reduced to three with two withdrawals. Yuel and Antonation offered support as Barber urged parity prices for farmers and prairie towns. The meeting raised funds and elected local party officers and a board.

Ron W. Houck of Hamiota Man earned the Governor General's silver medal as the top student in the University of Manitoba diploma course in agriculture. He won six of nine prizes, setting a course record, including soils, poultry, citizenship, horticulture, crop production, and livestock trophies. His Honor Errick Willis praised the student's outstanding achievement as 21 graduates completed the program.

Manitoba education minister Stewart E. McLean announced experimental Ukrainian language teaching at Grade 9 in selected high schools starting September 1962. The plan also includes revised French for grades 4 to 6, a new physical education syllabus for grades 7 to 11, and updated home making, industrial arts, and commercial vocational outlines for September 1962 with gradual rollout to higher grades.

The Crandall United Church Women met April 11 in the church parlors with the North Town group in charge. Easter Worship was led by Mrs. Bray and Mrs. Hazlewood. Passes included postponing May Family Night to June and planning June programs for Retarded Children led by Mrs. Kitzle. Ten dollars was donated to the Pilot Mound United Church Senior Citizens Home. A Strawberry Social, Home Cooking sale, and Bazaar were planned for June. Birthday Box volunteers included Mrs. D C Douglas. Save pennies for birthdays.

Radar checks will be visible and unmarked cars may patrol, with emphasis on secondary roads where many serious and fatal accidents occur.
