Federal Government to Fund Major Red River Floodway
The 30 mile Red River Floodway will cost about 63 million dollars with the federal government paying roughly 58 percent. The project aims to reduce flood disruption to national transport and economy by diverting water above Winnipeg to east of Transcona and returning downstream from St Andrews locks at Longport. The floodway channel will handle about 60 600 cubic feet of water per second, increasing capacity beyond the current dyked Winnipeg river level.
